Thermal Storage Systems

Thermal storage tanks allow heat energy to be produced during the day and used later at night.

In a thermal storage system, a large tank is filled with hot water. When more heat is produced than is needed in the greenhouse, hot water is added to the top of the tank and cooler water is drawn out from the bottom. The tanks are insulated to maintain the temperature. Additionally the buoyancy of hot water creates an insulating layer that separates the hot and cool layers. Thermal storage tanks allow heat energy to be produced during the day and used later at night. This is especially beneficial when combined with cogeneration, bio-mass, CO2 production, or peak-shaving technologies.
Enertec Mechanical designs, sizes and procures all mechanical components required to implement an effective, efficient thermal storage solution.

What Our Clients Think

  • The Linwell Gardens project involved the design and procurement of a heating system to service a 118,500 sq.ft. greenhouse expansion. The heating system consisted of a 3-stage hydronic heating network that was connected to an existing central hot water boiler plant.
